Attendance Policy
EXCUSED/EXEMPT ABSENCES
Students who miss any part of school for any reason are not eligible to practice or play in a game on that day (MHSAA rule). Exceptions would include school field trips and kindergarten mentoring.
Students who miss practice for a school related practice such as choir practice, play practice, etc. are excused, but they must make arrangements with coach to make up the practice.
Students who have school-excused or school-exempt absences are required to make up missed practices (students must make arrangements with Coach Vincent). Students with multiple excused absences may experience reduced play time as a result of missed practices though their absences are considered excused and sitting out of games will not be a consequence as long as student follows team policy for make ups and communications with coaches.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
Participation in school sponsored athletics is a privilege that is earned by each team member. Students must attend practices and games in order that they are properly prepared physically, strategically, and mentally. We understand mistakes happen, so we encourage students to talk directly with coach if something unexpected happens. Forgiveness is given when a student takes responsibility for the problem, and she promptly and directly addresses the problem – and how to fix it – with head coach.
A student who misses practice for any reason EXCEPT for school-related conflicts involving performances, such as choir concert, play performance, will not be a starter in the next game.
Repeated unexcused absences are not allowed. Students with repeated tardies and/or absences may lose their priviledge to be on the team.
Work is not a school related so it is unexcused. Talk with your employer well in advance about working around your commitment to your team. Most employers want you to honor your commitments and will respect you for it, because they will eventually expect the same from you.
