Tryouts are a selection process

Coaches assess players based on these (4) development areas, weighting each area by the listed percentage (note: these percentages have been adjusted from last year).

  • athleticism (30%): energy, control, strength, speed, quickness
  • individual skills (20%): stick skills, foot work, passing and catching, shooting, etc.
  • mental (30%): attitude and effort, coachability, toughness, decision making
  • tactical (20%): understanding the game and your role, offense and defense concepts and techniques

Tryouts policy

Tryouts are the first three days of practice. All players are expected to attend and participate in tryouts unless their absence is excused and prior arrangements have been discussed with Coach Vincent and makeup tryout arrangements are made. Student/athletes are expected to schedule all non-school related activities around tryout schedule, including work. Students involved in other school activities which may overlap with the lacrosse season must contact coach at least one week prior to tryouts to discuss arrangements for making up tryouts. Students with unexpected, school-approved, excused or exempt absences must contact coach as soon as possible before or at the start of tryouts to discuss making up tryouts. Injured and sick players will be excused from activities in tryouts and practices that may put their healing at risk, and they will be assigned to a team and participation based on an estimation of ability and allowed to participate at a level that will not aggravate their condition. Parents may address concerns or questions after your daughter has first had a private discussion (outside of practice-either before, after or at another arranged time) with Coach Vincent.

Assigning teams

Depending on the number of student/athletes who show for tryouts, we will have both a JV and varsity team. If sufficient numbers show interest for two teams, tryouts will be a selection process placing players at the appropriate level according to their skill and fitness as determined in the tryout process. If we do not have enough girls at tryouts to field 2 full teams, we will fill our Varsity team with most qualified players.
